Murtoa Concordia College
This surviving building was one of cluster of 10.
The German Lutherans who settled Murtoa were a vital part of the town's early history.
So important were they that a Lutheran school opened in the town in 1887 and three years later it was turned into a training college for Lutheran teachers.
In 1892 'Concordia College', a training facility for teachers and pastors, was built.
Part of the old building with some important Lutheran historical artefacts is located adjacent to the water tower.
1890:
German Lutherans who settled Murtoa were a vital part of the town's early history, 1887:
They built and their church, which was opened by Pastor W F Peters.
Church was opened as a boys college
1890:
Three years later it was turned into a training college for Lutheran pastors & teachers.
Leaders decided the College was too important to the future of the Church for it to remain in a “remote country town” in Victoria.
1905:
College was transferred to Highgate SA 1905
In 1892:
'Concordia College', a training facility for teachers and pastors, was built.

“The Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Victoria, which for several days past has been sitting in conference at St John's Church, Murtoa district . . . The attendance numbered about 200 persons, including 20 ministers, and delegates from every state in the Commonwealth. The Rev. Professor Graebner, of America, recently appointed master of Concordia College (German), Murtoa, has arrived, and on Sunday preached in the Lutheran Church, Murtoa, to a large congregation.” [The Argus 12 Sep 1903]

“We are about to lose a few residents, as the Concordia College here will not reopen after the holidays, as they have purchased a property near Adelaide.” [Horsham Times 9 Dec 1904]
“The Concordia College of the Australian Synod of the Lutheran Church, which was formerly located at Murtoa, Victoria, has been, by resolution of the controlling body, transferred to Malvern. The fine building previously utilized as the Methodist Ladies' College, has been purchased. . . The head master of the college is the Rev. C. Graebner, B.A., of the St. Louis University, America, and the school will be opened before the end of the month.” [Register 22 Feb 1905]
“On Wednesday 28 boarding scholars were enrolled, and the pupils who attended the Victorian school will take up their residence at the institution in due course.” [Register 23 Feb 1905]
